NPT Chapter Trail and Lean-to Maintenance and Backpacking in the Western High Peaks

This is a three-day backpacking trip beginning and ending at the Seward Trailhead on Ampersand Rd. This trip will inculde trail and lean-to maintenance projects and thus participants will earn credit towards the stewardship patch. We will be backpacking our gear and tools the first and last day. Sunday will be the primary work day. We will be clearing trail along the Cold River as well as spring clean-up of the lean-tos. At least one new privy hole will need to be dug and the thunderbox moved.

Participants must be able to demonstrate the ability to hike up to 12 miles in a day at a moderate pace, and must have overnight backpacking experience and all of their own gear. A maximum of 7 participants can go on this trip. Due to the nature of a multi-day backpacking trip, all participants should arrange to have a contact person available to assist them in exiting the trail should they need/want to do so.

This is an 18 and over trip and NOT suitable for beginners.

Rating: A, based on daily mileage, remoteness and work projects.

This is an Adirondack Mountain Club event and follows ADK Covid protocols including being able to provide proof of vaccination.
